To change your email signature on iPhone, open the Settings app, tap Apps, tap Mail, tap Signature (below Composing), then tap the text field and edit your signature. Apple says you can only use text there. These steps follow Apple’s iPhone User Guide page on changing Mail settings, read in October 2026. We checked its iOS 27, 26, 18 and 17 versions for the path.
How to change email signature on iPhone
- Settings, then Apps, then Mail.
- Tap Signature (below Composing).
- Tap the text field and edit the signature. Text only.
- Several accounts? Tap Per Account to give each its own.
- Using the Gmail or Outlook app instead? Those have their own setting.
How to change email signature on iPhone, step by step
- Go to the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap Apps, then tap Mail.
- Scroll to Composing and tap Signature.
- Tap the text field, then edit your signature.
- Leave the screen. Apple’s page has no separate save step.
On older software the path is shorter. Apple’s iOS 17 version of the page says to go to Settings, then Mail, then tap Signature (below Composing), and its iOS 18 version says Settings, Apps, Mail. The signature screen is the same in each. Apple describes the result as the signature that appears automatically at the bottom of every message you send.
Check that you changed the right thing
Once you know how to change email signature on iPhone, confirm that it worked. The simplest test is to open Mail, write a new message to yourself and look at the bottom of the body. If you see the text you just typed, the change took. Anything else, and the next sections cover the usual reasons.
How to change email signature on iPhone for each account
Apple’s tip: if you have more than one email account, tap Per Account to set a different signature for each account. Apple does not spell out the default, but the tip implies one signature is shared until you choose Per Account.
This is useful if your phone holds a work address and a personal one:
| Account | A sensible signature |
|---|---|
| Work | Name, job title, company, one phone number |
| Personal | First name only, or nothing |
| A shared mailbox such as info@ | Company name and the main office line |
Apple’s page does not say how many accounts you can set up this way, and we have not tried to count them.
How to change email signature on iPhone to remove “Sent from my iPhone”
If your messages end with a line like “Sent from my iPhone”, that line is text in the same signature field. Apple’s page does not mention that wording by name, so we are working from the page’s description: the signature is what appears automatically at the bottom of every message, and you edit it by tapping the text field.
To get rid of the line, open Settings, Apps, Mail, Signature, tap the field and either delete the text or replace it with your own. If you use Per Account, check every account, because one of them may still hold the old line. Clearing a signature entirely means your messages carry no automatic text at all, which is fine for a casual personal address but not ideal for business mail.
For business, replace it with something useful rather than leaving it empty. Name, role, company and one number take three lines.
How to change email signature on iPhone to match your computer one
The catch is that Apple’s page says: “You can only use text in your Mail signatures.” That is the answer to most “why does my logo not show” questions on the phone. A designed signature with an image, a coloured line and links needs a computer, or a mail app that supports it.
The signature below is the kind of design that stays on the computer. It has a logo and social icons, neither of which the iPhone Mail signature field can hold.
|
A designed computer signature with a logo and icons. On the iPhone Mail app you rebuild it as plain text. The company and person are made up.
Here is what to carry across when you rebuild the signature as plain text:
| On your computer signature | On the iPhone Mail signature |
|---|---|
| Logo image | Leave out |
| Name and job title | Keep, on separate lines |
| Company name | Keep |
| Direct phone number | Keep one number |
| Address and legal notice | Usually leave out |
| Website | Type it as plain text |
The same limit means a signature you built elsewhere will not paste into the phone with its look intact. Keep the phone one short, and see mobile email signature for what to include.
Other mail apps on the same iPhone
The steps above belong to Apple’s Mail app. Other apps on your iPhone keep their own.
- Gmail app. Google’s help says the Gmail app has a Mobile Signature switch under Signature settings, set per account. See Gmail signature on iPhone.
- Outlook app. It has its own signature. The guide to the Outlook signature on iPhone covers it.
- Mail on a Mac. Apple’s Mac page puts signatures under Mail, Settings, then Signatures, and says they sync across Mac computers through iCloud Drive. It does not say they sync to an iPhone, so set the phone separately. For the Mac, see how to add a signature in Apple Mail.
Not sure which app sent a message? Look at the app you wrote it in. A message started in Mail uses Mail’s signature, however many other apps you have installed.
How to change email signature on iPhone when the edit does not stick
Work through these.
- Wrong account. With Per Account on, you may have edited a different account from the one you are sending from. Open the signature screen again and check each.
- Wrong app. Check you are composing in Mail and not in the Gmail or Outlook app.
- Text field not tapped. The edit only happens once you tap into the field. If the keyboard never appeared, tap the text itself.
- Old message. Messages already sent keep the signature they went out with.
- Replies and quoted history. A reply can contain earlier signatures from the people you are replying to, so read the bottom of your own part of the message, not the whole thread.
Nothing in Apple’s page suggests more than that, and we would rather say so than guess at causes.
How to change email signature on iPhone for a whole team
When a company wants staff phones to show the same wording, the plain truth is that each person types it into Settings themselves. Apple’s page describes a per-device setting, not something an administrator fills in. emailfooter, the free WordPress plugin we make, produces the designed signature for computers and gives staff numbered steps for each mail app. It does not push anything to a phone. A practical approach is to send the three-line mobile text in the same email as the computer signature, together with the steps for how to change email signature on iPhone.
