In a free vs paid email signature generator choice, free is enough for one person who builds a signature once and pastes it. Paid starts to earn its fee when you need a team to share one design, want the vendor’s logo gone, or want banners and analytics. We read five tools’ own pages in October 2026 to see what the free side actually limits, and the answer is less uniform than the marketing suggests.
We make emailfooter, a free plugin for company signatures, so we have a stake in the free vs paid email signature generator question and say so. Each claim about the five tools below was taken from the vendors’ own pages, read in October 2026. Where a page was silent, the table says “not stated”.
Free vs paid email signature generator: the short version
- A free generator is enough if one person needs one signature and is happy to host their own logo image.
- Paid adds team management, analytics, banners, removal of the vendor’s branding and sometimes automatic install, depending on the tool.
- The catch with paid: two of the five pages say your signature stops working if the subscription ends.
- A third route is a free tool that a company runs itself, such as emailfooter, which trades automation for a zero licence fee.
Free vs paid email signature generator: five tools on their own pages
This table is what each page said in October 2026. “Not stated” means we did not find it on the pages we read, not that it does not exist.
| Tool | Free route | Account | Free limits stated | What paid adds, per its page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HubSpot | Free generator with 12 templates, unlimited signatures | No account required | None stated. Images must already be hosted at a web address | No paid tier described |
| NewOldStamp | Free generator with simple templates and basic customization | Not stated. The page offers “Email me the link” | The generator is not available on mobile, per a note on the page | Banners, analytics, team management, no branding |
| WiseStamp | “Create free signature”, plus a 14-day trial of paid plans | Sign in with Google, Microsoft or email | Not stated | Auto-install integrations, campaigns, analytics, single sign-on, by plan |
| MySignature | A free plan | Account needed to save, copy and manage | One signature per email address, basic with limited functions. Branding removal is listed as paid | Advanced designs, tracking, analytics, team features, branding removed |
| Gimmio | Free version of the generator | Sign up to create more than one | The tool showed “0 of 1” signatures. Fully custom signatures need a plan | Premium features, grouped signatures, bulk import, saved layouts |
Three details are easy to miss. HubSpot’s page says its generator is free with no trial period, and it describes no team features. NewOldStamp’s pricing FAQ says that during its 7-day trial you can make as many signatures as you like but cannot start using them until you upgrade. And on the WiseStamp pricing page the FAQ answer to “is there a free version” is the 14-day trial, while the separate generator page offers a free signature after sign-in. Our page on WiseStamp pricing goes through that in detail.
What a free vs paid email signature generator limits, across these five
Reading the five pages together, the free side tends to restrict a handful of things:
- How many signatures. MySignature’s FAQ limits the free plan to one signature per email address. Gimmio’s tool counted “0 of 1”.
- The vendor’s branding. MySignature lists branding removal among the paid additions, and NewOldStamp says “no branding” comes with its paid plan.
- Team features. NewOldStamp, MySignature and Gimmio all point teams to paid plans. WiseStamp’s team integrations sit on Basic and above.
- Analytics and banners. NewOldStamp lists both as paid. MySignature lists tracking and analytics among its paid additions. WiseStamp lists campaigns and analytics from its Grow plan.
- Saving your work. MySignature needs an account to save and copy. HubSpot does not need one.
- Devices. The only device limit we found was NewOldStamp’s note that its generator is not available on mobile.
Templates are less clear. HubSpot gives 12, Gimmio’s page title says 55 or more, and MySignature’s home page says 100 or more, which are the vendors’ own counts, with no free and paid split. NewOldStamp says its free version has simple templates, and MySignature lists advanced designs under paid plans.
What the paid side costs for five people
Comparing free vs paid email signature generator prices is awkward because the tools price differently, so this is not a like-for-like ranking. It shows the figures each page gave in October 2026 for a team of five. Where we multiplied, we say so.
| Tool and plan | Shown for five people |
|---|---|
| HubSpot | $0. No paid tier described |
| Gimmio, 5-signature package | $49.00 a year billed yearly, or $7.00 a month billed monthly |
| NewOldStamp | $109 billed annually, with $1.8 per signature per month shown (slider at 5) |
| MySignature, Core | $6 per user a month, billed yearly. Five users is $30 a month by our arithmetic |
| WiseStamp, Basic | $19 a month plus a $1 monthly fee per employee, billed annually. Five employees is $24 a month by our arithmetic |
The spread is wide, and the features behind each number differ. WiseStamp Basic lists Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 auto-install, for example, while the MySignature page we read describes user management and tracking. Check the plan name, because MySignature’s cards (Core and Connect) and its FAQ (Free, Professional, Teams) use different labels.
The cost nobody puts in the price table
Two of the five pages say what happens if you stop paying. NewOldStamp’s FAQ says the signature keeps working while the subscription is valid and stops at expiry or when the account is deleted. MySignature’s FAQ says that after your billing cycle ends, signatures, online cards and wallet cards stop working.
That follows from how those tools work: the images and links in a signature live on the vendor’s servers. It is a fair design, and it is something a free vs paid email signature generator comparison should include. If you want to be able to walk away, prefer a route where you hold the HTML and host the images. HubSpot’s generator, for instance, asks you to paste a link to an image you have already hosted. That is more work, and it keeps the image under your control.
When a free generator is enough
Stay on the free side of the free vs paid email signature generator line if all of these are true:
- One or two people send mail that needs a signature.
- Nobody needs the same logo, colours and legal line across a team.
- You can host a logo image yourself, or the free tool does it.
- You will not miss banners or click numbers.
- You are content to update the signature by hand when details change.

When paying makes sense
Cross to the paid side of the free vs paid email signature generator divide when one of these is the real problem:
- Nobody agrees on the design. Central management with locked fields fixes this, and the tools above sell it.
- People will not install their own. Auto-install through Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 is listed on WiseStamp’s Basic plan and above.
- Marketing wants the space. Banners and analytics are paid features on the pages we read.
- Details change often. Directory sync keeps titles current. Our page on email signature software pricing compares what vendors charge for it.
- You need the vendor’s name off the signature. Branding removal is a paid feature on MySignature and NewOldStamp.
A third option: free for the whole team
A free vs paid email signature generator comparison usually stops at two choices. There is a third: a free tool that a company runs itself. emailfooter is GPL software by Ulrea that installs as a WordPress plugin. It has no paid tiers, no licence keys and no cap on companies or employees. An admin builds one signature from ten layouts and 24 colour themes, attaches a logo and, if wanted, a legal footer, and invites colleagues. Each of them edits only their own details, then works through the steps for their mail app (16 are covered).
Here is what you give up. Staff install their own signature, because emailfooter does not push into mailboxes. There is no directory sync and no click analytics, only counts of copies and install starts, and it speaks English only at present. It is also not free to run: hosting, a domain and email delivery are yours to pay for, unless you ask about emailfooter Managed, which is priced on request.

Invented example: a ribbon layout with a locked legal footer, produced by the emailfooter engine.
Free vs paid email signature generator: choosing in one pass
Answer these in order and stop at the first one that settles it:
- Is it one person? Use a free generator and keep a copy of the HTML.
- Is it a team that needs matching signatures, and can everyone follow steps? A free shared tool may do.
- Must signatures appear without anyone doing anything? Pay for a tool with auto-install, and check what stops working if you cancel.
- Will marketing run banners? Pay for a tool that lists them, and ask about the analytics.
The free vs paid email signature generator question comes down to who does the work. A free tool leaves it with you and your team, and a paid one moves part of it to the vendor, for a fee that the table above puts at roughly $49 to $360 a year for five people.
Frequently asked questions
Is a free vs paid email signature generator really different in quality?
These pages do not let us rank output quality. The stated differences were in the number of signatures, branding, team features, analytics and sometimes templates. Test the output in your own mail app either way.
Should I pay for an email signature tool?
In a free vs paid email signature generator decision, pay if you need central control, banners, analytics or auto-install. If one person needs one signature, a free generator is enough.
What happens if I stop paying for an email signature generator?
NewOldStamp and MySignature say on their pages that signatures stop working when the subscription ends. Check how any paid tool hosts your images before you roll it out.
Are free email signature generators safe to use?
Safety depends on the tool’s privacy practices, which we did not assess. Read each vendor’s privacy policy, and note that some free tools need an account and others do not.
How do I choose a free vs paid email signature generator for a team of five?
Start with whether five people need one shared design. If they do and can follow steps, try a shared free tool. If you need auto-install, compare the paid figures above, which ran from $49 a year for Gimmio’s 5-signature package to about $360 a year for MySignature Core (our arithmetic).
