A Gmail signature on Android is set inside the Gmail app, one Google Account at a time: tap Menu, scroll to the bottom and tap Settings, choose the account, tap Mobile signature, type the text and tap OK. It then appears on mail you send from the app, and nowhere else. The steps below follow Google’s Gmail signature help page, read in October 2026.
Gmail signature on Android in brief
- Open the Gmail app, tap Menu at the top left.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Settings.
- Choose the Google Account to change.
- Tap Mobile signature, enter your text, tap OK.
- No mobile signature? New messages use your computer signature.
Gmail signature on Android, step by step
Google lists seven actions to set a Gmail signature on Android.
- Open the Gmail app.
- In the top left, tap Menu.
- Scroll to the bottom, then tap Settings.
- Choose the Google Account where you want to add a signature.
- Tap Mobile signature.
- Enter the text for your signature.
- Tap OK.
Google describes this as a signature that shows up only for emails you send from the Gmail app. If you chose the wrong account in step 4, the signature will attach to the other one, so read the account name at the top of the settings screen before you type.
One signature for each account
Step 4 is the one that makes this setting per-account. You pick a Google Account first, and Google’s wording is that the signature is for that account. That suits people who run more than one address:
| Account in the Gmail app | Sensible mobile signature |
|---|---|
| Work address | Name, role, company, one phone number |
| Personal address | Your name only, or leave it empty |
| Shared address such as info@ | Company name and the main office number |
To set the second account, go back to Settings, pick the next Google Account and repeat from step 5. Leaving one account empty is a choice you are allowed to make. Google’s tip says that if you don’t create a signature in the app, new messages use the signature you made on your computer, so an empty mobile signature does not necessarily mean a blank one.
If you also use the Gmail app on an iPhone or iPad
The two apps use different wording for the same idea. On Android you tap Mobile signature and finish with OK. In the iPhone and iPad app you open Signature settings under Compose and Reply, switch Mobile Signature on and leave with Back. If you switch between phone types, or you are writing instructions for a mixed team, keep both versions to hand. The iPhone steps are in the Gmail signature on iPhone guide.
Why your desktop logo is missing from a Gmail signature on Android
People often ask this after they have spent an hour on a signature with a logo on the computer. Two facts from Google’s pages explain most of it.
- The Android steps are about entering text. The page describes typing the text for your signature, and does not describe adding an image, a table or a link button in that box.
- On a computer, Google’s page describes formatting the signature by adding an image or changing the text style, and says the image counts toward the 10,000 character limit.
So the computer signature is a formatted object and the Android one is a text field. When you type in the Mobile signature box, you replace the fallback with plain lines. Google’s page does not say how an image from the fallback signature is shown in the app’s compose window, so do not trust it blindly: send yourself a message from the phone and see what arrives. This is the kind of designed computer signature, with a logo and social icons, that the phone’s text box cannot hold:

Example only. The company and person are made up. A computer signature like this is built from formatted parts, not from the plain text of the Mobile signature box.
If you want the logo on every message, the reliable route is to compose from a computer. For the design side of the picture, how to add an image to your Gmail signature covers upload, Drive and web address.
What to put in a Gmail signature on Android
A good rule for a Gmail signature on Android is to include the facts a customer would use while standing in a shop or sitting on a bus: who you are, who you work for, and one number. Leave out the address, the legal paragraph and the social icons, because the long version is still available on every email you send from a computer. Mobile email signature goes through this in more detail.
When the Android signature does not show
Work through these in order.
- Wrong account. Open Settings again and check the account you edited is the one you send from.
- You did not tap OK. Google’s last step is OK, so finish the dialog with it rather than backing out, then reopen Mobile signature to check your text is still there.
- Another email app. The Gmail app’s setting applies only to the Gmail app. Other apps on your phone, such as Samsung’s email app, are separate programs with their own settings. The Samsung email signature guide covers that one.
- The message is trimmed. Google’s troubleshooting page says a signature can be hidden below the body of a message, separated by two dashes. Scroll down and tap or click Show trimmed content.
- A company footer. If your account belongs to a Google Workspace organisation, an administrator can append a footer to outgoing mail. According to Google’s Workspace help, people do not see that footer while writing and cannot change or remove it.
- A computer-side problem. If the fallback is what you are seeing, check the settings on the computer. Gmail signature not showing lists the causes there.
Gmail signature on Android across a company
If a company wants every phone to carry the same short signature, the realistic way is to send people the exact text and the path above. Nothing in the Android steps lets an administrator fill in the field for them. emailfooter is a free WordPress plugin that keeps the full design in one place and gives each employee numbered steps for their mail app. It produces the computer version, and each person still pastes it in. For the phone, give employees a three-line text to type into Mobile signature. A Gmail signature on Android stays a short text that each person sets for themselves.
