License

The licence, in plain English.

emailfooter is free software under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later. This page explains what that means for you. It is a friendly summary, not legal advice, and the licence text in the plugin always wins.

GPL v2 or later · no licence keys · no limits

The short version

Free to use, change and share

You don’t need our permission to do any of this.

You can

No permission needed from us:

  • Use it on as many sites as you like, for yourself or for clients
  • Use it in a business and charge for services built around it
  • Change the code to suit you
  • White-label it with Agency mode
  • Share copies, modified or not

You must

The conditions that come with the freedom:

  • Keep the copyright and licence notices in the files
  • Pass on the same GPL licence if you share a copy
  • Make the source available with any copy you share (the plugin already includes it)
  • Say clearly what you changed in a modified copy

You can’t

What the licence rules out:

  • Remove the licence or copyright notices
  • Put your copy under a stricter licence
  • Hold the authors liable if something goes wrong: it comes with no warranty

Questions people ask

Can I sell emailfooter as a service to my clients?

Yes. Agencies do this. You can charge for setup, hosting, support and anything else you provide. There is no licence fee and no revenue share. Turn on Agency mode to add client companies and your own branding.

Do I have to keep the “Powered by emailfooter” line?

No. That line is a setting, not a licence condition. It is on by default as a thank-you, and in Agency mode you can switch it off in Branding. What the GPL requires is that you keep the copyright and licence notices in the code.

Can I modify the plugin and keep my changes private?

Yes, if you only use your copy yourself. The GPL’s sharing rules apply when you give copies to other people: then they get the same freedoms, including the source.

Can I use the emailfooter or Ulrea name and logo?

The GPL covers the code, not names and logos. You are welcome to say your service uses emailfooter. Please don’t present a modified copy as the official one. If you have a question, ask Ulrea.

Is the licence the same for emailfooter Managed?

Managed is the same software, hosted by us. Using the service is covered by the Terms of Service, and you are still free to move to your own install later.

Where is the source code?

In the plugin itself. The interface in build/ is compiled from the source in ui/, and BUILDING.txt explains how to rebuild it. The PHP is not compiled.

Made by Ulrea
