Tell us who you are, then check your inbox
We email you a download link that works for seven days. It helps us understand who uses emailfooter and which industries to build for.
We use your details only as described in the Privacy Policy. Not on WordPress yet? emailfooter Managed is the same software, run by us.
Before you start
What your site needs
Most WordPress sites already do.
A WordPress site
WordPress 6.4 or newer, PHP 7.4 or newer, HTTPS, and a single-site install (multisite networks aren’t supported yet).
Email delivery
Invitations and password resets are emailed through the SMTP details you enter in Settings. Without email set up, the app shows copyable links instead, so nothing is blocked.
A little server support
Apache, LiteSpeed or nginx. The GD image extension is recommended for coloured icons. Optional features that change server rules run a compatibility test first and stay off if your host can’t do them.
Install
Six steps, about ten minutes
Upload and activate
In WordPress, go to Plugins, Add New, Upload Plugin. Choose the zip, install and activate. Whoever activates it becomes the platform admin.
Follow the setup guide
It opens by itself. Tell it who you are, confirm your email with a code we send, and add your company. Agency owners choose “I’m an agency” here.
Design your signature
Set the logo, colours and layout once for everyone, under Business info and Design.
Set up email
Under Settings, Email (SMTP), enter your mail provider’s details and send a test. Then invitations and password resets can be emailed.
Add your branding (agencies)
In Agency mode, Settings, Branding lets you add your logo and accent colour so the app and emails look like yours.
Invite your team
Employees accept an invitation, add their details and install the signature in their mail app.
Honest costs
The plugin is free. Running a website isn’t.
This is what self-hosting means, so nothing surprises you later.
Hosting
A WordPress site needs somewhere to live. Any decent WordPress host will do.
Domain and SSL
Your signature app lives at an address you own, over HTTPS.
Email delivery
A transactional email service or your mail provider’s SMTP, so invitations arrive.
Upkeep
Updates, backups and security. Do it yourself or ask your developer. Updating emailfooter means uploading the newer zip.

FAQ
About the plugin
Is there a catch?
No. The plugin is complete and free. We earn our living from emailfooter Managed, for companies that would rather not run a website, and from agencies that build services around the plugin.
Does it send data to you?
A little, and we tell you exactly what. During setup the plugin asks you to confirm your email with a code we send. After that, about once a week, it tells us it is still installed: an install ID, your site address, and the plugin, WordPress and PHP versions, plus whether Agency mode is on. We use that to count live installs. Your companies, people and signatures are never sent. You can disconnect in Settings, or block it with one line in wp-config.php, and the plugin keeps working.
What is Agency mode?
A switch that is off by default. Off, the plugin runs one company and shows a small “Powered by emailfooter” line. On, you can add client companies and put your own name, logo and colours on the app. The setup guide has a link for agency owners.
Will it work with my WordPress theme?
Yes. The app runs on its own screen (/app/ and inside wp-admin), so it doesn’t depend on your theme.
How do I update it?
Upload the newer zip under Plugins, Add New, Upload Plugin and choose to replace the current version. Your data is kept.
Can I change the code?
Yes. It is licensed under the GPL v2 or later, so you can use it, study it, change it and share your changes under the same licence.
Is it translated?
Not yet. The interface is in English for now.
Prefer to have it run for you?
